October 9th 2010 12 300 km Svetlogorye, Primorskij kraj region

Hello, my dear friends! I am still alive and kicking and feel good!

Sorry about making you worry but as we know the travelling does not leave an opportunity to get to internet at any time. The same happened with me – I have passed through Russian territory but an opportunity to get online occurred only as I have met a guy from the same parts of Ukraine. His name is Victor and now I am at his home. We’ve got acquainted last year riding the Federal trail. But why shan’t I start from the beginning

On the Septmber 24th a train took Malinka back home and in the evening I threw away the crunches since I no longer need it!! In the morning 25th I hit the road. Damir saw me off the town. The road lead me to Russia.

On the road I ran into Sergej from Simferopol who was returning home having rode across Uzbekistan and some other countries of that region. In the evening I have installed a tent in the most wild and sheltered place at the site of Pavlodar. After a long life in accommodations first couple of nights are the hardest – disturbed sleep and feeling of somebody very hungry nearby. This night wasn’t out of the list as well as the following one.

September 26th 2010

Next day I crossed Russian border. I was full of gratefulness to Kazakhstan and it’s inhabitants for that month of wonderful revelations and meetings. I was so inspired that even have thought out a song. So get ready to travel along mighty and beautiful lands of Russia!

IT was autumn. The leafs get yellow, the air is fresh and slightly cool and temperature in the sunshine rises up to 20 degree C – the most suitable for riding. In the evening I arranged a camp nearby Novosibirsk. The night was rather cold however my sleeping bag I was provided with by AZIMUTH shop has stand it and perfectly kept warmth. It’s the second time I take it with and still feel happy. I don’t think that those tent and sleeping bag from IKS tourist accessories shop would be perfect. Still it’s good they refused the participance in my project.

September 27th 2010

This night I spent with Igor Shem and Denis The Diver from Kemerovo. They have met me with hugs and hearts wide opened, so the night was spent with sharing news of the year.

September 28th 2010

It rains first since my departure! The previous one was desired and seemed to be for luck.

Since the accident in Kazakhstan I started fearing the flanking wind. Each time it inclines the cycle aside I think of the fall and plaster. The front wheel seems to lose air again and I slow down to 60 km/h or even stop. I try to conquer this fear and it seems to be defeated soon. Talking about the plaster – Konstantin from Astana – a physician – has made me a plastic splint so I am no longer afraid of ot’s breach or fracture. I still avoid using my broken leg. I can install a tent jumping on one leg. And do it faster time after time! So, I put on my rain protection and headed towards Krasnoyarsk. By the way I sold a tire to Yura who lives 80 km from Kemerovo. This money I want to spend for a highway tire.

In the evening I met two guys who rode their light enduros back home from races. We arrange a meeting next day. This time my friend Nickolaj – a man of an outstanding generousity was waiting for me making supper. Having had a supper I slept as a tired biker tourist.

September 30th 2010

In the morning I said goodbye to Nikolaj and his spouse Irina who gave me some homemade jam. To my regret the jam was forgotten in garage. Yet anyway I steered ahead. The weather gives me a chance – it’s +10’C and no rain at all. Today’s plan provides riding to Oleg aka Gribnik (Mushroomer) at Nizhnyaja Poyma. I flew 350 km at once since I am no longer afraid of flanking wind. Dinner and new plaster await me.

October 01st 2010

Rains, autumn and cold air made me think of winter tires. Having rode 730 km this day I entered Irkutsk. Now it’s +23’C I lie on a sofa, smoking waterpipe. Hope this weather will move with me till Vladivostok. Still I know that passes over Sayan mountains may be covered with snow. All the summits glitter with white. My bones feel better day after day – I no longer have to linger my leg behind me. But I walk like a regular average biped! I have phonecalled my friends in Birobidjan – Igor and edik. After visiting them I’ll move to Svatlogorye where another friend of mine Sergey lives for more than 30 years. He is originally from Dnepreopetrovsk, Ukraine and I carry him some gifts.

October 2nd 2010

Having considered that my vehicle should be fresh looking I have washed it. Besides I have put on a new visor glass. It’s a present from a biker shop I have got it for free.

October 3rd 2010

Early in the morning I left Irkutsk and rode east headind towards Ulan-Ude. All waylong I was freesing or boiling time after time. The temperature varied from +3 to +15 C-degree.It was so because I had to ride over the mountain passes along the Bajkal lakeshore. This lake is a witness of the continent emergence.

October 4th 2010

Sun and roadI came to Chita pretty fast and fresh. Unfortunately Dmitrij I want to spent night at did not pick up the phone. He did not answer for two days and I had no choice but spend the night in a usual manner – in a tent at the privacy of a forest. It might seem weird to ride across taiga in the night looking for a place to stand. But more weird is meet people there! It was two of them. Well-dressed holding each other by the hand, walking silent in a country remote from roads, without vehicles or any signs of men nearby. I must be frozen for a second from fear and instantly strayed away. It was too weird to walk around and more weird to stay. If I only knew Dmitry will not meet me I’d set a camp before passing through the city. Anyway half an hour later I was making myself a supper. In fact I felt myself a kind of guerilla – no campfires, no flashlight in a far and hostile land. This night was pretty familiar – I slept uneasy waking from even rustle.

October 5th 2010

A day in a saddle, stops only for fueling. Federal trail is fitting for cruising at Honda GoldWing’s, whirring at YBRs and miscellaneous sportbike’s squealing. Fueling stations with restrooms are placed in every 150 kilometers. The road is marked and plain.

That night I spent in an abandoned quarry at Mogocha site. In thenight a hurricane emerged. It brought blizzard but the snow melted very soon. Still the weather got worse. It’s no surprise because that was the ultimate north point of my tour.

October 6th 2010

In the morning the thermometer showed wicked zero. After breakfast it was warmer but not more than 8 degree. All day longI eas sending thanks in my mind to Pasha from motopsihoz.com who provided me with pants and jacket. This garment is awesome!! Never I have met pants that kept warmth in freezing wind and didn’t let my legs get boiled in hot weather. I decided to make a certain page to place thoughts and feelings after testing clothes and equipment. Speaking about the equipment: at night my sleeping bag proved me that it’s extreme regime is -5 degree. It was -10 below zero outside and my feet would be frozen if it was not for sheep fur by Mikhail from Astana. Having used it I returned to wath the dream where me and Malinka rode across India at a huge Nissan Patrol.

October 7th

The most endurind thing in such a cold is to wake yourself and get up. Setting up a campfire is pretty dangerous. There is nothing left but lie in a sleeping bag waiting for a sun to rise and drive the clouds away. Contemplating on these matters I spent two hours drinking tea with milk. But if it is for the numbers here are some: Woke up at 6 o’clock, 2 liters tea drunk, temperature outside my awesome shell is about +10 degree C scale, but in about 400 km it was +18. By the evening I got to Birobidjan where Sergej waited for me. To my regret Andrej and Edic went to Khabarovsk.

October 8th 2010

First day with my plaster off! At last I can get rid of #45 boots and put on my usual #43.

The day spent in Birobidjan was filled with talks, shower, super, talks again, conversations on bike travelling issues.

October 9th 2010

I met Victor on a federal trail in some canteen. Today I am at in Svetlogorye at his house. It’s a frying heat in the street – +25 C, a harvest of watermelons is being gathered, boiled corn is being sold at the roadsides. In other words I met summer again. The utmost northern regions of my trail are left behind and only southern ones are ahead. Travelling in Korea excites despite I know that the American trail promises much more.

Ina week I will be at Seoul, and one week later I will ride about American flatlands and canyons. Awesome!!

I miss Malinka so much. It’s a pity she will not take part. But she supports me in a distance. Can’t imagine what would be if we would not have met.
